At handover the source code, database schema and technical documentation are delivered to the client, and the data belongs to the client as well. That means the business decides who develops the system in future and is never tied to a single supplier. Continuing with the team that built the system is usually the fastest route, but maintenance and new development can be carried out by another team if you prefer.
